Business case template for Word

A full case for an investment: options, costs, benefits, risks.

Free, and not counted as a creation. You get your own copy to edit, in any theme.

When to use it

Use it for a larger investment decision that needs options, costs, benefits and risks set out in full.

How to use it

  1. Make your own copy. It opens in the editor, where you can change the theme and edit anything.
  2. Fill in the fields below, and answer the question each section asks with your own content and numbers.
  3. Download it as an editable Word file, or as a PDF. The file is reopened and checked before it is offered.

Section by section

  1. Business case: [initiative] [company] · [date] · owner [owner]
  2. Summary We recommend [initiative] at a cost of [cost]. What does it achieve, and why now?
  3. The problem What is wrong today, for whom, and what does it cost?
  4. Options considered A table: Option, Cost, Benefit, Risk
  5. Costs and benefits How were the costs and benefits estimated, and from which figures?
  6. Risks What could go wrong, how likely, and how is it handled?
  7. Decision needed Who must approve this, and by [decision date]?

Fields to fill

Fill them once in the editor, or from a spreadsheet to make one copy per client. Where a slide needs content, it asks the question it must answer instead of showing a made-up answer.
